Didier Chamizo is a French painter from the Lot region. Born in Cahors in 1951, he left his native town for Saint-Etienne, where he became a factory worker. A 60-something soul, Chamizo has a special link with this most turbulent of eras. Driven by proletarian revolt, he railed against society and its inequalities. Highly committed, he devoted his youth to numerous libertarian struggles. In the aftermath of these events, after working with armed groups, he was tried and then imprisoned for 17 years. This period turned his life upside down. While there, Chamizo escaped by painting. It was a real encounter, an outlet. It was there that he developed his first series, sarcastically entitled : Freedom.
