Hervé Di Rosa was born in Sète (France) in 1959. He lives and works in Paris, Mexico City and around the world.
After studying at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, he presented his first Parisian exhibition, “Finir en Beauté”, in 1981. The artist was then honored in Amsterdam and Düsseldorf, then at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Winner of the Fondation Médicis, he lived for two years in New York, where the Barbara Gladstone Gallery presented his work. He also participated in the 1985 Paris Biennale, for which he designed the poster. In 1989, Hervé di Rosa collaborated for the first time with local artisans by producing two silk-screen prints in an advertising print shop in Tunis. In 2000, he founded the Musée International des Arts Modestes in Sète. From the Sogetsu Kai Kan Foundation in Tokyo to the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, via the Evo Gallery in Santa Fe, the artist travels the world to interweave the cultures and modes of expression of each country where he lives.
A contemporary French painter, he was, along with Richard Di Rosa, François Boisrond, Rémi Blanchard and Robert Combas, one of the main architects of the French “Figuration Libre” movement, a revival of painting in the 1980s, a painting that often borrowed from comic books, rock and graffiti. The liveliness and tones found in the work of Hervé di Rosa, make him a globe-trotting artist nourished by the cultures of the world, a true journey of initiation: Miami, Mexico, Africa, Cuba, Israel, Vietnam, South Africa, Haiti, Tunisia … The artist is in line with the news of his time with a colorful style, graphic painting with reference to popular arts. He claims his belonging to a mass urban culture.
